Traveling to Durban
Durban's King Shaka international airport is located 30 km north of Durban. Transport from the airport can be arranged if you indicate so on your registration form. For independent travellers there are shuttle buses leaving the airport every 45 min during the day, and that can drop you at the major hotels such as Protea Hotel Edward. Taxis and the Uber service can be called from the airport.
About Durban
Sunny, subtropical Durban is a busy port city on the east coast of South Africa. It is the largest city in the province of Kwa-Zulu Natal and the original home ground of the Zulu nation, for whose most famous king, Shaka Zulu, the airport is named. The diversity of cultures that call it home give it the uniquely rich mix of sunshine and spice that is evident in a street tour of the Warwick junction markets or the sampling of one of Durban’s signature curried culinary delights, the bunny chow.
The beachfront, newly revamped for the 2010 soccer World Cup, is a favourite place for both locals and tourists, who make the most of the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. Crowned at one end by the Moses Mabhida stadium and on the other by uShaka Marine World, a waterpark oceanarium extravaganza, the beachfront offers a host of activities for the intrepid traveller, from surfing to bunjee jumping. And, should you plan to extend your stay in South Africa Durban offers the perfect point of departure for a trip to one of the many game reserves in the province or to the majestic Drakensberg mountains.
